India: Anamika to join Manish at Paris Fashion Week

New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) The Indian fashion industry is on the upswing. Now, designer and member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) Anamika Khanna is all set to join Manish Arora at the Paris Fashion Week (Spring-Summer 2008 collection) in 2007. They would be the first Indian designers to showcase their collections at the event.

Didier Grumbach, president Paris Fashion Week, as well as FDCI confirmed the participation of these designers at the fashion extravaganza.

This is the first time Indian designers are participating independently under their own labels in the Paris Fashion Week, scheduled to be held from Sep 30 to Oct 7, 2007.

Announcing the selection, Rathi Vinay Jha, Director General, FDCI said, 'Anamika is a talented designer and we are extremely proud of the fact that she and Manish Arora will be the first Indian designers to make a mark at a prestigious platform like the Paris Fashion Week.

'FDCI's long-term vision is to place Indian fashion on the global marketplace and this is definitely a step towards achieving that goal.'

A beaming Anamika Khanna said: 'The international fashion market is taking Indian fashion and its designers seriously. I am overjoyed yet nervous. Participation at an international fashion platform involves not only creating world-class products, but also being sensitive to design application and style.'
